Patrick Tourneboeuf (1966 - )

Biography

Patrick Tourneboeuf, born in Paris in 1966, is a photographer and co-founder of the Tendance Floue photography collective.

In the mid-1990s, Patrick Tournebœuf became interested in the common places of urban space. With "Périphérique", a silent vision of the Parisian boulevard, the beginnings of a research on the suspension of time take shape. This work continued in "Nulle part", for which he stopped in seaside resorts. This observation from a distance, disconcerting, builds a critical discourse in hollow of our society.

Since 2003, he has devoted part of his work to fixing the stigma of history. Three photographic series focus on the places where a memory is constructed: "Cicatrice", on the traces of the Berlin Wall, "La mémoire du jour D", on the beaches of the Normandy landings, and "Stèles", on the monuments to the dead of the Great War.

For the past 25 years, he has been collecting photographic work on heritage under the title "Monumental", writing without nostalgia, halfway between a documentary look and a questioning on the ambiguities of the representation of reality.

Patrick Tournebœuf has received various grants, residencies or awards, including the Excellence Award 2015 at Changjiang International Photography in China, or participation in the Transition Project "The Social Landsape Project" invited by the Photo Market School of Johannesburg in South Africa and Les Rencontres d'Arles in France.

A solo-show of the series "Trace - Kimberley" was exhibited for six months at the MIT Museum in Cambridge/Boston, USA. He is now exhibiting in Venice, Italy, at the Fondazione Dell'Albero d'Oro as part of the inaugural exhibition of the Palazzo Vendramin Grimani, in echo to the Venice Architecture Biennale.

His photographs have been integrated into several collections, foundations and institutions, including recently the Carnavalet Museum in Paris and the Regard Collection in Berlin. He is the author of several books.

He is the 2021 winner of the "A Photographer for Eurazéo" Prize with the series Blow-Up.
