by
Julien Airault
It all began in Hong Kong in 2014, with the meeting of Axel and Philippe. The connection was immediate, and their friendship continued to deepen over the years. Then came the meeting between Philippe and Julien in Axel’s galleries in Paris. Once again, it felt self-evident, and a genuine friendship quickly formed between them.
From these affinities grew a mutual admiration, nourished by their respective creativity and sensitivity. Philippe, who also practices watercolor, reveals an exquisitely artistic delicacy of gesture: his virtuosity unfolds as much in art as it does in cooking.
It was only natural, then, for Philippe to call upon Julien to adorn the walls of his restaurant, giving tangible form to the dialogue between their two worlds.

Biography
Born in 1979, Julien Airault is a French painter and sculptor.
A self-taught artist, Julien Airault has been interested in art for more than 15 years. His first steps as an artist are devoted to watercolor, a technique that attracts him by its lightness and technical constraints. He then realizes a series of exhibitions in portrait gallery in an expressionist style with which he will have a lot of success.
Following a change in his personal life, he decides to paint his first abstract canvases and the Chinese art scene of the second half of the 20th century becomes for him an inexhaustible source of inspiration and energy.
Fascinated by post-war painting and especially by the artists of the lyrical abstraction movement, he draws his artistic influences from illustrious artists such as Zao Wou-ki and Chu Teh Chun.
Success is immediate! On his canvases, matter is the vehicle of a real emotional lift. The spectator is immersed in an universe where softness and nervousness, tranquility and chaos, dream and travel come together.
Collectors are at the rendez-vous, the same ones who admire and own the works of the masters of lyrical abstraction.
In October 2021, the Sarto Gallery is proud to release its first monograph of the artist's career, which covers almost 200 pages.
He also created a series of oil paintings of the Black Sea, which reflect his interpretation of the Mediterranean Sea at night. His poetic works captivate us. Julien has shown us that he can play with the codes of figurative art while retaining his creative freedom.
