Jean-Yves Fremaux was born in 1947 in Marcq-en-Baroeul, a town near Lille. After completing his medical studies in Lille, Jean-Yves settled on the shores of Lake Annecy and began his artistic career, which led him to exhibit in galleries in Annecy, Lyon, Switzerland, and elsewhere.

He started out working with watercolours. It was through this technique, although demanding and difficult to master, that he made his name. Nevertheless, eager to explore other techniques that might better suit his desire for vibrant colours, Jean-Yves turned to oil on canvas.

Painted with a palette knife, Jean-Yves' canvases reveal bold colours without being garish. Jean-Yves' impressionist references are clear. What makes him original, however, is the eminently visible contemporaneity of his compositions. Jean-Yves depicts scenes from the present day. His painting allows us to contemplate today's Paris in its everyday life. The subtle play of light immerses us in a painting with soft, light tones, marked by the dynamism of the figures depicted. Jean-Yves' works invite us on a journey and compel us to contemplate. There is no doubt that even the most Parisian among us will rediscover their city, guided by the artist's powerfully delicate gaze.
